Our client, Lee, suffered from unexplained bouts of confusion and blackouts almost daily, usually 90 minutes after waking up. After three trips to the emergency room and countless tests that mainly focused on neurological issues, the hospital doctor uttered these incredibly useless words: “I don’t know what I’m looking for. Go home.”
Our Wellness Team looked at the issue through several lenses, including neurological and gastrointestinal (GI). Neurological issues were eliminated after a lumbar puncture was completed, as well as an EKG and MRI. A neurologist in the traditional healthcare system ordered the lumbar puncture and noted it as “routine.” Lee was told that the test would be scheduled in 2-3 weeks and that he should expect a call to set it up. Results would take another 2-4 weeks. The Sarana Health team considered Lee’s episodes an urgent matter and made the necessary calls to move things along at a much faster pace. The lumbar puncture was scheduled for the following day. The results were back within a few days. It’s obvious how far a little bit of effort can take you. We also ignored the neurologist’s note that the next step would be a psych evaluation. Have you ever heard of a psychiatric condition that happens on a schedule? Remember, this was occurring every day around 90 minutes after Lee woke up. A narrow perspective, to say the least. Next up was testing for GI issues. Turns out Lee had a gut health imbalance, caused by a buildup of E. coli. This led to ammonia level spikes, which led to an activation of areas in the brain, causing the episodes. This was part of the initial diagnosis, and our testing and analysis confirmed we were on the correct path.
A 2-month cleansing protocol of dietary adjustments (more fiber, please!) and supplements. Simple, and effective.
